June is a busy month for those of you ready and wanting to drive. Starting off June 3rd with another invite to the Gary Curtis Driving Experience.  Gary Curtis Driving Experience is kicking off the season and we are invited through Alejandro Sanchez of the Minnesota T register and BIR Performance Driving School instructor, to participate in an informal car show on Saturday, June 3rd. Join us for an informal car show during a performance driving school day at the track. When the track goes cold, at noon, we’ll be allowed to lap the track at moderate speeds (no helmets needed).

Not happy with fast parade laps….. Curious to see what your car can do on the track with professional instruction? Strap in and get ready because the Gary Curtis Performance Driving Experience is here to teach you how to get the most out of your ride! After 25 years at the Brainerd International Raceway running the BIR Performance Driving School, Gary Curtis has brought his Performance Driving Experience to Rosemount, MN!

And even if you cannot make this event this is a reminder to take out your LBC and find a road you like. Show it off and for bonus points call some other members in your area to meet for a coffee, ice cream, or refreshment.

Lunch will follow at Eagan Arms Public House.

Bob and Lorie Jensen are once again hosting this year’s “Drive Your MG Day” drive. You might remember that last year’s drive took us through the Twin Cities from the State Capitol in Saint Paul to the Harriet Bandshell in Minneapolis. This year’s drive will start at their home in Lake Elmo (2815 Manning Ave N Lake Elmo, MN 55042) proceeding north on selected country roads, the St Croix Scenic Byway, thru Franconia Township and crossing into historic City of St. Croix Falls.

The final destination is the Lions Park Main Shelter along the Saint Croix river. Maps will be provided at the start of the drive. The link below provides you with the driving map and instructions. In total the drive is about fifty miles from start to finish. Bob has recently driven the route to check the road conditions, and everything looks like a go.

The drive departs from Bob and Lorie’s home at 11am. (try to get there around by 10:45 to visit and driver instructions). We plan to arrive at the Lions Park shelter around noon. Bring your lunch and Bob will provide his world-famous baked beans as a side dish.

    You're Invited   GOF CENTRAL 2023

Celebrating 100 Years of the MG Sports Cars

The Olde Octagons of Indiana and Hoosier MGs are proud to host GOF Central 2023, the premier MG event of 2023 in the Midwest where we will be celebrating the Centenary of MG sports cars.

This is the 42nd  Gathering of the Faithful (GOF) in the Midwest.  GOFs started as an annual gathering bringing together owners and enthusiasts of MG T-series cars (T-series were made 1936-1954).  Started in the 1960s by the New England MG T Register, GOFs have for many years been held annually regionally (northeast, Midwest, south, and west).  The event is an opportunity for fellowship, camaraderie, and sharing of MG experiences and technical know-how.

While a GOF has traditionally been an event for T-series MG owners, MGs of all years and model groups are welcomed.  In 2023 this GOF Central will be the national meet for the North American MMM Register, featuring MGs built in the 1929-1936 era.  Known as the MMMs (for Midget, Magna, and Magnette) these are the MGs that blazed the successful competition trail for MG.  There will also be a large number of later model MGs – MGAs, MGBs, Midgets, and others.  All MGs and enthusiasts – regardless of model year – are invited!

The MG Vintage Racers Group is organizing a celebration of MG next year at Lime Rock Park. We will be racing MGs for sure, but we are also hoping to get street cars out there for a car show and other festivities. They are really looking for T-Types and MMM cars so I'm planning to race my TC; if we can get enough entries we will have our own race specifically for T-Types and Pre war cars. That should be a sight to see.   And only about 1300 miles away!

The 41st Lime Rock Park Historic Festival, September 1-4, 2023, will feature a host of MG events to celebrate the 100th year since Cecil Kimber badged his bullnosed Morris as an MG for Morris Garages.

MGVR’s Dave Nicholas said, “we expect a record number of MG’s from pre-war to current to be racing and dozens more significant MG’s to be on display throughout the weekend”.

Skip Barber, the Event Chairman, added that “we’re hoping for a big turnout of pre-war and T type MG’s. When this happens, we will have a separate race for those historic cars as well as an all-MG race for the newer models.”

The Lime Rock Park Historic Festival is a unique motoring event with three days of historic racing and Sunday in the Park, which combines the Lime Rock Concours with The Gathering of the Marque. Together they draw hundreds of classic and competition cars that are arrayed around the Lime Rock Park circuit. Lowell Paddock, executive director of Sunday in The Park, offered “we will have a judged MG class in the concours as well as a display of the many different models of MGs around the track. Expect to see some truly beautiful examples.”

This amazing assembly of cars arranged over Labor Day weekend draws thousands of fans. We hope to reacquaint the faithful and introduce the younger enthusiasts to the history of MG. From racing to Sunday in The Park, this event is not to be missed.

Noted illustrator Bob Colaizzi has penned a commemorative poster for the event showing the history of MG from Old Number One, Doreen Evans in her Brooklands-winning MGQ and the MG EX 181 Bonneville car driven to a land speed records by Stirling Moss and Phil Hill. The bottom group on the poster shows the MGVR field for the rebirth of the MG Collier Cup after 50 years, and the stunning MGA of Carl George.

A complete schedule of the 41st Lime Rock Park Historic Festival and MG celebration will be published as we get closer to the event.
